2020-May-27 : Shaping the European Green Deal call
Katrin Bohn has contributed to the shaping of Area 7 Restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services for the European Green Deal call.
The prominence of “food” as a subject of the call and hence of the European Green Deal is a major achievement. Both, the recently adopted Farm to Fork Strategy and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 are important milestones towards the implementation of productive urban landscapes. Both feature throughout the 8 thematic areas of the Green Deal as well as informing its 3 cut-across areas.

According to the European Commission’s website, ‘the Green Deal call will mobilise research and innovation to foster a just and sustainable societal transition aiming at ‘leaving nobody behind’. Projects are expected to deliver tangible and visible results relatively quickly and show how research and innovation can provide concrete solutions for the Green Deal main priorities. This is why the call will support:
– pilot applications, demonstration projects and innovative products,
– innovation for better governance of the green and digital transition and
– social and value chain innovation.
In addition to technological development and demonstration, the call encourages experimentation and social innovation for new ways to engage civil society and empower citizens’.
The call is being prepared by the European Commission since December 2019, now entered its final drafting phase and is expected to open in September 2020. Katrin contributed on invitation by the chair of COST Action “Circular City” in which she represents Great Britain.
