2019-Mar-04 : Berlin’s Spiel/Feld Marzahn community garden elects a new head
Last week, the neighbourhood association Spiel/Feld Marzahn e.V. held its annual general meeting in which the past gardening year of 2018 was celebrated and the new year planned. All attention centred around the 600 m² food-productive garden and its associated people, facilities and activities. Apart from providing the opportunity to grow fruit and veg outside one’s doorstep for its members, the project again engaged in environmental education of school and nursery children, run events for and with neighbours and looked after its wider 2000 m² inner-urban site.

Katrin who’s Department City & Nutrition at TU Berlin co-initiated the project is still an active supporter of the project and always enjoys taking part in its events and meetings.

Spiel/Feld Marzahn e.V. is the neighbourhood assocation that runs, develops and uses the community garden Spiel/Feld Marzahn [Playing/Field Marzahn] in the heart of Berlin borough Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Initiated in 2011 through a participatory design and built process involving residents and local organisations, the local council’s planning department and the Department City & Nutrition at the Technical University of Berlin, the project has become an integral part of the borough’s open space program.

For many years, the assocation’s 3-persons board has been led by local resident Maxi Greiner. We thank her for her dedication and energy ! and for many great open air events when Maxi doubled up as musician. The new lead of the board is Katharina Böhme who, since many years, is one of the key people in the association’s school gardening work.
