The Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Urban Affairs awarded the Federal Urban Greenery Prize in 2020 for the first time. With 237 competition entries, this first round of the Bundespreis Stadtgrün was a complete success. The jury selected six prize winners from the entries submitted. Seven contributions received a recognition. A further 35 entries were nominated.

The Bundespreis Stadtgrün [Federal Urban Greenery Prize] honours exceptional commitment to urban greenery, diverse usability, design quality, innovative concepts and integrative planning approaches. Cities and municipalities in Germany were able to apply with their urban green projects. Planners, initiatives and other urban green space actors were invited to submit their projects together with the municipality.

Projects could be submitted in four categories: Gebaut [Built] – Gepflegt [Maintained] – Genutzt [Used] – Gemanagt [Managed]. Plattform Produktives Stadtgrün was submitted by the client, the Senate Department for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection [Senatsverwaltung für Umwelt, Verkehr und Klimaschutz] in the category "Managed".
